Rant #49: Cr**py Corporate Culture

Probably asking the wrong crowd, if there is one, but this is driving me nuts. So I see someone (rightfully) respectable sharing a post saying it is "fascinating" and the original poster starts with the words "truly mind blowing!". So I dig into it only to find that... well let me just paste the content here-

"This is truly mind blowing! Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook profile is the oldest surviving user account on Facebook, with the profile ID of 4. Yes, just 4! Older profiles (1-3) were test accounts that Mark used and deleted. But the user # 4 was Mark himself and the profile still exists."

Really? It is a fascinating and mind blowing fact? Feels more like a "Well, duh!" thing to me. Ok ok its all about marketing I get that, but is the market truly at this low level that you can say stupid things or anything for that matter just for the sake of saying and that makes positive impacts for you? I agree that it can be a trivial fact for someone (living under a rock) that Mark Zuckerberg indeed for a fact has a Facebook profile and someone (don't know where Zuckerberg comes from) might even be surprised that he is in fact one of the first users, but why pulling down the value of words like "fascinating" or "truly mind blowing!" along the way? Ok ok, I get clickbait culture, but is it really healthy for organizations that work with and for some of the most intelligent people in the world? I am making a big deal out of it cause I see more and more organizations (some even I worked for) is taking this cheap route of marketing to create some temporary buzz. And there is no denial of that cause otherwise what they are doing can be explained as is just being plain stupid. And on the surface level these cheep buzzes might look like they are doing great in favor for them. But if they keep doing this, statistically speaking, sooner or later one of these posts is bound to rub the people in a wrong way for sure Just be smart as you claim to be is all I am saying.
